Mother Bear, Families for Mental Health is a family-led recovery network whose mission is to be a catalyst the mental health recovery movement. We believe that recovery from even the most severe emotional states is not only possible, but should be expected.
We are actively connecting families, individuals and professionals in the healing power of community to foster mental health recovery—sharing mental health education and recovery-oriented resources, and by creating and sustaining national, regional and local community support groups.
Individual recovery is a family affair…
but Family recovery is a community affair.
Our founding “Mother Bear,” Lisbeth Riis Cooper, has made this recovery journey with her own family, and is helping to support hundreds of families through their own recovery process at CooperRiis Healing Community—an organization she co-founded with her husband Don Cooper in the Appalachian mountains of North Carolina.
We do not provide direct care or endorse specific health care providers or treatments.
If you feel that you and/or a family member needs immediate professional assistance, please contact a qualified mental health care provider, peer respite center, or call 1-800-273-8255 (TALK), the national suicide prevention lifeline.
